our approach to sustainability

At Terrae Home, we feel a sense of responsibility and accountability to help reduce waste and mitigate our impact on the environment. It is also important to us to make sure we are giving back to local initiatives that help offset some of the impact of using wooden raw materials and lumber resources. With this in mind, we opted to partner with Tree Canada, to do just that.

With the help of their community partners and sponsors, Tree Canada have planted more than 82 million trees!

RAW MATERIALS

We strive to incorporate environmentally conscious practices into our daily operations, including our choice of raw materials. Our high quality lumber is sourced from North American wood suppliers. Our finishing oil is a plant-based vegan cutting board oil made from refined coconut oil and essential oils. We do not use polyurethane varnishes or sealants on our wood products.

MANUFACTURING PROCESS

In addition to using sustainable and natural materials, we selected a manufacturer with decades of experience manufacturing high end wooden products. They incorporate processes that take into  consideration minimizing waste, both in terms of materials and energy. When there is an opportunity to incorporate reclaimed wood or wood pieces into products we take the opportunity to do so, for the sake of our planet.

PACKAGING MATERIALS

When selecting our packaging partner, it was important to us to support a like-minded local firm as well. We love that our packaging manufacturer is Rainforest Alliance Certified™ and uses supply-chain practices that are approved by the Sustainable Forestry Initiative and Forest Stewardship Council. We worked with them to select the optimal recycled, recyclable, and pulpable packaging. It was important for us to avoid the use of plastic in our packaging. We also love that all their materials are curb-side recyclable too!

Even our labels supplier makes their labels from paper with a thin protective layer for durability. We use those where a small adhesive will do in place of plastic tape. The labels are printed in Toronto, so we are proud to support another local business!

By teaming up with two great local businesses, we are all able to work together to help lower our carbon footprint.
